Keynote: Tourism's Role in an Inclusive Northeast

New England is richly infused with culture, from picturesque seaside towns and mountain escapes to important sites of American history. Yet our region is also one of the least racially diverse regions in the country, with 84% of residents identifying as white. Our diversity reputation doesn’t help us, and we lose loads of prospective tourism because of it.

What is our responsibility, as the voices of the travel industry, to change how we receive, embrace, and market to tourists of color? What can we do as a region to improve our own practices in inclusion? This dynamic panel of seasoned travel influencers and industry talent will take a solutions-based approach to how we as a Boston-based community can bring more people -- from all backgrounds -- to what we think is the best region in the country.

  • SanTara Cassamajor, The Gorgeous Ingredient

  • Carole Copeland Thomas, Greater Boston CVB Multicultural Committee

Katie-Dickinson.jpg
A native New Englander, Katie caught the wanderbug soon after moving to South Korea. After four years living in and exploring Asia, she’s back in Boston working for a hospitality non-profit. Work isn’t everything, so spare time goes to her family, her blog, exercise, looking up cheap flights, and Snapchatting all the far-away friends she’s met along the way!
